Next week an annual event will take place at Springbrook State Park.

Iowa Department of Natural Resources Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan says that on New Year’s Day, they will be hosting a First Day Hike at the park. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that this is an annual event at state parks on the first day of the year, where park staff will lead a hiking tour through the park. Riordan mentions that the First Day Hike at Springbrook will begin at 1pm outside the park office, and will consist of a two mile trek. She adds that there are a total of 23 other parks participating in the event, with the next closest being at Lake Anita State Park for anyone who may like to go on more than one hike.
