West Central Valley Head Girls Basketball Coach Dan Druivenga believes that the team is continuing to develop, as they gear up for the second half of the season in 2026.

The Wildcat girls are 2-5 on the year with wins over Ogden and Madrid, and Druivenga likes the growth he’s witnessed from the first day of practice. WCV lost by a combined 13 points to Creston, Earlham, and Panorama, then suffered defeats to AC/GC and Des Moines Christian, but Druivenga knows that those teams are making them better. He highlights the good aspects he saw from the Wildcats in the win versus Madrid.

“We had a girl under the weather, so we were a little short-handed on the bench. The girls played really hard. (We have) a lot of energy, we’re still having problems scoring, but we’re working on that and we’re trying to get some more things put in so we can take better shots and so on.”

Druivenga says the girls will have the rest of the week off to enjoy the Christmas holiday, then will return to the gym on Monday for practice, as their first game back from the break is on the road at Nodaway Valley High School on January 5th.
