The Golden Age of Paton-Churdan high school football will be celebrated with a reunion open to the public. The event will be held on Saturday, Jan. 31 in Jefferson at Lucky’s Sports Grill inside Wild Rose Casino. All players on the State Championship teams of 1985 and ’86, families of the players, and fellow P-C fans are welcome. Those interested should arrive at Lucky’s between 4-5 p.m. with appetizers served between 5:45-6 p.m.
Jim Cox was the head coach of those back-to-back State title teams that were a big part of the school’s 29 game winning streak. The Championship games were inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. The ’85 team won the State title in four overtimes vs. Sanborn, 2014, and the ’86 Rockets topped Aurelia by a 6-0 final. The first Championship team went 12-0 and the second one was 11-0.
