The winter months are here, and many people may need help with making sure they have enough for their family to eat while everyone is at home.

New Opportunities Family Development Coordinator for Guthrie County Rhonda Huggins oversees the Guthrie County Food Pantry in Guthrie Center, and says that the winter months are big ones where they need food donations to help those they serve. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that they were able to help with some holiday meals.

“We have just recently done some Christmas meals, people were excited to get those, but as we get into the next couple weeks and into the New Year, usually our donations start to drop off. So this is when we’ve got to keep it in the back of folks’ minds that we are still helping folks with meals and still needing donations.”

Huggins mentions that at this time, they could use bottles of juice, farm fresh eggs, canned beans, jams, jellies, crackers and other non-perishable canned goods. She adds that for those interested in donating, they can stop in from 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday to drop off any donations, whether it’s a monetary or food donation.
