Mason Haley

Mason Haley made his presence on the football field known last fall for the Greene County Rams and the 6′ 4″, 260 lbs. junior is holding his own on the wrestling mat this Winter. Having not wrestled since his Pee Wee days, he’s put together a 9-8 record for Coach Zach Beekman’s team. The Rams are 1-7 in dual meets and have trouble filling all 14 weight classes. The lone win was on Dec. 18 vs. Saydel (Des Moines) by a 39-30 score and Haley wrapped things up with a win by fall to secure the team victory.

He told Raccoon Valley Radio he switched from basketball to wrestling partly because he was looking for a new challenge and also to get in better shape. He added he likes the challenges that come with wrestling and he’s in better physical condition than a year ago.

Greene County wrestles in a pair of Heart of Iowa Activities Conference dual meets early next week to begin the 2026 portion of the season. The Rams wrestle in Nevada vs. the host Cubs and Perry Blue Jays on Monday, Jan. 5, and will face West Marshall (State Center) and Roland-Story in a make up triangular on Jan. 6 in Story City.
