Guthrie County 4-H and FFA members should be preparing to make sure that their beef animals can be registered soon.

Guthrie County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Youth Coordinator Rachel Muir says that they will be holding their beef weigh in on January 10, 2026. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio that it will also be an important time for those looking to take beef animals to the Iowa State Fair as well.

“All market beef (animals) do need that retinal image, and so that will take place at the weigh in as well. If you are planning to show at the Iowa State Fair.”

Muir mentions that the weigh in will be from 8-10am at the Guthrie Livestock Auction yard in Guthrie Center. She adds that animals that are weighed and receive retinal scans will need to be registered online by February 1, 2026.
