The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is hosting several First Day Hikes to celebrate the start of the new year tomorrow, and one in Guthrie County will be extra special.
DNR Interpretive Naturalist and Educator Anne Riordan says that the First Day Hike at Springbrook State Park will also be the kickoff to celebrating the park’s 100th year of being a state sanctioned park. She mentions that the event will begin at 1pm, and start at the park office for a two mile hike on moderate terrain. Riordan adds that individuals can hike a shorter distance if they would like, and that once the trek is finished, there will be hot chocolate and cookies available at the park office.
