Iowa House Speaker Pat Grassley has appointed new committee chairs before the 2026 Legislative Session gets underway.

Grassley says District 28 Representative David Young, who represents Adel, will serve as the Chair of the Commerce Committee, after chairing the Transportation Committee during the 2025 session.

Additionally, District 47 Representative Carter Nordman, who serves the northwest corner of Dallas County with the city of Perry, plus Greene and Guthrie Counties, is the Chair of the Ways and Means Committee, after being the chair of the Health and Human Services Committee.

The Speaker gets to appoint the respective committee chairs because the Republican Party is the majority in the House. The 2026 Legislative Session starts on January 12.
