The 2026 portion of the Greene County High School basketball season is underway. The Rams traveled to Des Moines and Saydel High School for a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheader with Greene County winning the girls’ game 57-42 and Saydel taking the boys’ contest by a final of 81-33. Both games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Coach Tori Ogden’s Rams led 38-17 at halftime and led by as many as 23 points before the Eagles trimmed the difference to within 14 points halfway through the fourth quarter, but could get no closer. The Rams only had four players score points but senior Becca Anderson had 21 points, with senior Kaycee Pittman added 17, a career best, and junior Makenna Ebersole was next with 16. Ebersole also had 15 rebounds and senior Jennifer Robbins had nine rebounds and three points.   Greene County stopped a five game losing streak and is now 3-6 overall and 2-5 in the conference. Saydel has lost seven straight and is 1-7, 0-6. Senior Luella Weisphenning led Saydel with 24 points.

The Saydel boys are now 7-0 on the season and 6-0 in the HOIAC while the Rams fell to 1-8 with eight straight losses and they stand 0-6 in league play. Senior Gage Moreno, a Johnston transfer, had 30 points for the Eagles, and junior Jacob Oltmanns added 15 points. Saydel had a 25-5 lead after one quarter of play and led 43-10 at intermission. Seniors Teagan Chisholm with 11 points and Rafe Michaelsen with nine were the Rams top scorers. The Rams had a cold shooting night at 22 percent and the Eagles were hot at 56% from the field.

The Greene County teams will play in Jefferson on Tuesday, Jan. 6 vs. West Marshall (State Center) on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
