The Iowa Shrine Bowl planning committee announced the assistant coaches for the 2026 Iowa Shrine Bowl just before the turn of the year.

For the Shrine Bowl, teams are divided into north and south, with a head coach and six assistant coaches chosen for each team. A familiar face will be making an appearance in the coaching staff for the south team, as AC/GC’s Cody Matthewson was named as one of the assistant coaches. The head coach for the south team is Cory Faust of Glenwood, and the other assistant coaches for the team include Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln’s Peter Kilburg, Clarinda’s Conner Hanafan, Marion’s Michael Joyner, Fairfield’s Matt Jones, and Regina Catholic’s Dustin Elsbury. Matthewson shared that he’s looking forward to taking part in this special event 17 years after he played in the game himself.
