With the new calendar year, a new chair for the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors has been named.

Supervisor Steve Smith takes his first turn in the lead seat, and says that he’s looking forward to getting back into this kind of leadership position after having retired from being a superintendent before running to be elected to the Board. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that one area he knows that he and other members of the Board want to focus on is continuing to improve infrastructure within the county, and shares that state legislation will be something they watch as well.

“Another area, personally for me and I know that the other members feel the same way is that we really need to keep an eye and stay in tune with what’s going on in the legislative arena. That affects us a great deal.”

Smith mentions that legislation passed by the state can affect what the Board can do, and how some of their decisions are made, as they work to follow along with that legislation. He adds that another goal he would like to continue on is keeping the citizens of Guthrie County safe, including the current work with trying to set up a countywide emergency medical service.
