
Paton-Churdan and Ar-We-Va (Westside) played a Rolling Valley Activities Conference girl/boy basketball doubleheader on Friday night in Churdan. Coach Tom Kennedy girl’s team picked up win number two on the season with a 52-18 victory, while Coach Josh Cerveny’s P-C boys lost to Ar-We-Va, 53-42.
The AWV girls are 0-10 and P-C is 2-8. Friday night saw P-C reach a season high in scoring and four players put between nine and 12 points. Leading the way with a dozen was junior Alivya Smith. Freshman Chloe Happe scored 11 points with junior Kaliyah Minnihan at 10, and sophomore Holly Miller added nine points. The home team led 23-15, then they held the visiting Rockets to just three points in the second half.
Paton-Churdan’s boys have a 4-6 record while AWV is 6-4. Junior Trevon Keely had 15 points to lead P-C and he unofficially had a team best 11 rebounds. Senior Cayden Stream and junior Bryce Stephenson each scored 10 points. Stephenson was credited with seven rebounds and three blocked shots. Coach Cerveny told Raccoon Valley Radio the game was close most of the night, but his team had a tough stretch in the third quarter.
