Coach Zach Beekman had a partial squad of six wrestlers compete on Saturday at the Rollin Dyer Invitational in Atlantic on Saturday. Junior Brennan Jacobs improved to 20-1 on the season and won the 106 lbs. title after a first round bye, then three dominant victories. He won via first period fall in the quarterfinals vs. a wrestler who was 13-1. The semifinals saw Jacobs won by technical fall against an opponent who was 22-2 when they met, and the day finished with another first period fall, this time vs.  Luke Walsh of Sergeant Bluff-Luton, who is top 10 ranked and had been 29-1 before meeting Jacobs. Brennan is ranked as high as second in Class 2A and has now won 18 matches in a row.

Three other Rams placed fifth or higher. Junior Jaron Jacobs at 120 lbs. was third and junior Degan Miller was fourth at 157 lbs. Freshman Kading Winters was fifth at 132 lbs.

Saturday’s team champion was Grand Island (NEB) with 242 points. The Rams were 11th among 17 teams with 71.5 points.

The Rams are home on Jan. 15 in a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference triangular vs. PCM (Monroe) and South Hamilton (Jewell) at 6 o’clock. Greene County wrestlers compete on Saturday at the Perry Invitational.
