West Central Valley senior Kayla Bartholomew wants to give hope to visually impaired athletes thinking about giving sports a try.
Bartholomew bowls for the Wildcats in the Adaptive Division, and explains that she’s been participating in the Heartland Bowling Events for four years through the Iowa Educational Services for the Blind and Visually Impaired. She describes that through bowling, she has found it as a great way to socialize with other people and is passionate about helping others. Bartholomew encourages any visually impaired athlete to give sports a shot.
“Just make any necessary adjustments with your people. Talk to your sports coordinators, talk to whoever you need to (in order) to get everything set up and hopefully you can get into that sport, and just be inspired to try it.”
Bartholomew notes that her family and coaches are incredibly important because they constantly are supporting her, plus she feels the love from her teammates as well. She also competed at the state level last season for the Adaptive Division. West Central Valley will return to action tomorrow in Osceola for the Clarke Triangular at 4pm. Bartholomew will be featured on tomorrow’s edition of the Wahl McAtee Tire and Service Center Guthrie County PM Sports Magazine on K107.9 KKRF, starting at 6pm.
