The 2026 Iowa Legislative session begins this week and one lawmaker reveals what committees he is serving on..

House Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that he’s been tasked with taking part of the Appropriations Committee, which looks over how the state’s budget and spending is decided. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he’ll also be sitting on a subcommittee pertaining to Federal and Other Funds, and shares what that subcommittee will do.

“That deals with obviously the funds we receive from the feds, and we’ve gotten a little bit more leeway on how we get to disperse those from this Administration. So we have our own committee for that now.”

Sorensen mentions that he once again has been named the Chairperson of the Economic Growth and Technology Committee, where he works to improve the state’s economy and information technology. He adds that for constituents who have questions or concerns they would like to share with him, they can contact him by emailing him at ray.sorensen@legis.iowa.gov.
