An Iowa House Republican is looking to protect consumers during the 2026 Legislative session.
District 28 Representative David Young, who represents Adel, says consumer protection bills may be introduced during the session, which started yesterday. He adds that those bills could address predatory lending or towing companies.
“Consumer issues are important to me because although I’m a capitalist, and I believe in free markets, sometimes there’s some bad behaviors out there and we need to make sure that we can identify them and nip those in the bud. Because no one likes predatory businesses or collusion or monopolies. While I’m a capitalist, there’s got to be a moral framework around that. We’ll see what happens with those issues on the House and Senate side.”
Young will also serve as the Chair of the Commerce Committee, after chairing the Transportation Committee during the 2025 session.
