The Stuart City Council met in regular session Monday night.

The Council received an end of year report from Stuart Police Chief Dave Reha, then heard from Scout Troop 167 on members attending meetings in the future to earn their merit badges, as well as from Wiley Chumos who asked for documentation and paperwork form 2014-18 regarding infractions and nuisances of 308 North Main Street. They also heard on a nuisance violation at 616 North Fremont Street, and approved the 2026 contributions for Midwest Partnership and Region XII Council of Governments.

The Council then heard a pre-renewal reintroduction from United Risk Services Representative Jenyse Durham, then approved paying $15,000 of the $100,000 in liquidated damages they will receive for the Wambold 3rd Addition to Veenstra and Kimm services provided outside of their contract, and to have two Council representatives meet with professionals to discuss a tax increment financing application for Central Mart I, LLC more in depth. They also approved a right of way ramp proposal, and payment for the Community Catalyst Building Remediation Grant funding request from the state of Iowa to Duncan Construction, LLC.

The Council will also look into an employment attorney as the current human resources person they have been using has retired, as well as approved Mike Johnson of Johnson Funeral Home and others to reinstate a cemetery committee through following the procedures for setting up a committee. They finished by discussing bringing back the City Council Code of Conduct and Code of Ethics first approved in the early 2000’s.
