In 2026, there are several things that the Guthrie County Board of Supervisors look to accomplish.

Board Chair for 2026 Steve Smith says that there are several things that are tasks that they look to complete each year, especially when it comes to their duties to the county. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about one of the biggest ones that he and his fellow Board members know is one of their biggest responsibilities.

“We know that economic development is so important for our county and anything that either I or any of the other board of supervisor members can do to help spur that, to help support that in our cities and in our towns. That’s a major goal to help give a little bit more of a boost to rural Iowa.”

Smith mentions that another big thing for him is to keep an eye on the state legislative session to follow along with items that may affect decisions the Board will need to make, especially regarding eminent domain. He adds that improving county safety is another thing to keep in mind.
