Every year during budget time, the Greene County Board of Supervisors considers several funding requests that are made by local area non-profit organizations.
Supervisor Chair Dawn Rudolph says there are several groups that ask for funding on an annual basis and the money for that is through the county’s general basic fund, which is from property taxes, as part of the county’s non-departmental account. Rudolph points out that while the Supervisors are under no obligation to provide funding for those organizations, she explains why they consider all of these requests every year.
“They are very important to the community and services that are needed by our citizens. So, we hope that we can continue to fund those because they do help a lot of families and people in our community to get those services that they need, and it’s just really important.”
Rudolph adds that with each non-profit that asks for funding, the county has a 28E agreement in place, so that it is legal for them to give money to those groups. She notes the Board will make adjustments to what each entity asks for as they consider the entire county budget ahead of the next fiscal year.
Rudolph details that the Board also has access to a separate funding mechanism that non-profits can also apply for through an agreement with the ethanol plant near Grand Junction, with Louis Dreyfus. She says that there is a limit on the number of years that those funds can be used, which is coming within the next few years.
