Playing on consecutive nights, the Greene County High School varsity basketball teams followed up Monday’s trip to Manson in non-conference play with Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girls and boys games in Perry. It was the start of the second rotation of games in the HOIAC and Greene County won two down-to-the wire contests. The girls’ game went to the Rams by a final of 47-46 while the boys’ contest was decided by two points, 60-58.

Coach Tori Ogden’s girls trailed by nine points in the third quarter before taking their first lead at 31-30. The score remained close down the stretch, but the Rams trailed 46-44 with seconds left and sophomore Faith Jaimes-Diaz came off the bench and scored the tying basket. Moments later senior Becca Anderson made a free throw for the final point of the contest. Anderson had 18 points with 13 by junior Makenna Ebersole. The Rams improved to 5-8 on the season and 3-6 in the conference while the Jayettes fell to 1-8 in the league and 3-8 overall. It’s been five years since the Rams won more than five games in a season and as many as three HOIAC games. The Rams went 11 of 27 from the foul line and Perry was six of 15.

Coach Chris Nelson’s boys have won two of their last three and they stand at 3-9 overall and 2-7 in conference play with all three wins on the road. Perry is 2-9 and 1-8. Both teams were in foul trouble throughout the night and the Rams took advantage with a fourth quarter that saw them made 12 of 16 foul shots in the final eight minutes. For the game, the Rams went 21 of 28 shooting free throws and Perry was 14 of 21 from the line. Blue Jays senior Gustavo Drahos had a game high 25 points. The Rams had a pair of career scoring highs from senior Teagan Chisholm with 21 points and 14 from junior Zack Stalder.

The Rams are home on Friday in HOIAC play in Jefferson vs. Grand View Christian (Des Moines) on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Coverage starts at 5:45 p.m. with the girls’ game at 6 o’clock and the boys to follow. The 2026 Greene County High School Athletics Hall of Fame class will be introduced in front of the basketball crowd as well. A 6 p.m. public reception on Saturday at the high school will be followed by the induction ceremony in the auditorium with comments from the Hall of Famers. Saturday’s event is free and open to all.
