One state lawmaker is continuing to serve on the same committees that he served on last year.

District 24 Senator Jesse Green is the chair of the Education Appropriations Sub-Committee, and he says that it deals with the funding for the universities and colleges through the Iowa Board of Regents and does not include State Supplemental Aid for K-12 public education. He talks about continuing his work on two other committees.

“I’m one of only two senators that get to sit on both Ways and Means and Appropriations Committees. And so, I literally get to have a voice for my district on both the taxing side of things and how we spend money.”

Green describes a bill he is personally working on in the Judiciary Committee that he also serves on. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio there are states that allow couples to “opt-in” to find a fault in their marriage in order to get a divorce.

“To explain that further, that means the state will only recognize your divorce if you can prove fault. That’s the way it used to be before 1972 and I think there is some desire to have that once again. So that’ll be a fun bill to run through (the) Judiciary (Committee).”

Other committees Green serves on include Education, State Government and International Relations.
