As the 2026 Iowa Legislative session has begun, many may wonder what some of the larger topics will be.

Iowa House Representative for District 23 Ray Sorensen says that as with the previous session, he sees the topic of property taxes as what will be the biggest topic for the year. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio about what he believes will be the second biggest topic for the two chambers.

“Of course the CO2 pipeline issue is always kind of staying prevalent. You know, the House has passed multiple bills, the Senate’s kind of stalled out, and I think people are looking for some sort of resolution there.”

Sorensen mentions that regarding property taxes, it’s been an easier said than done type of situation, especially as both chambers, composed of 150 legislators, and the governor all try to work out something that will work. He adds that this will be something that will most likely be passed at the end of session, as it falls under the Ways and Means Committee.
