
Paton-Churdan and Coon Rapids-Bayard played a girl/boy basketball doubleheader in Churdan last night in the Rolling Valley Activities Conference. The visiting Crusaders won 59-22 in the girls’ game and 91-46 in the boys. P-C is 2-11 in girls’ basketball and 4-9 on the boys’ side. The Crusaders are 9-3 on the girls’ side and 12-1 on the boys.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s girls’ team was led in scoring by junior Kaliyah Minnihan with nine points, followed by junior Alivya Smith with six points and five for freshman Edynn Smith. CDr-B led 59-10 at halftime.
The P-C boys are under the direction of coach Josh Cerveny. They Rockets had 16 points from senior Cayden Stream and 15 from junior Trevon Keely. Unofficially, junior Bryce Strephenson had 11 rebounds with six for senior PHoenix Hartman. Keely was credited with two steals. The coach said, “We competed and played them tough for a little over two quarters. They had nine 3’s in the second half and broke it open. I am proud of our effort tonight. We just need to work on putting a full 32 minutes together. We need to keep working and have three more games next week.” The halftime score was 37-26, then CR-B out scored the Rockets 54-20 in the last two quarters. Caden Oswald of CR-B lead all scorers with 29 points.
