The Ankeny Centennial Jaguars pounce on the Mustangs, winning 55-51, thanks to a 27-point third quarter and 16 points from their star sophomore, Keaton Kasperbauer.
The game started with sloppy play on both sides, but Keaton Kasperbauer knocked down a pair of threes, and Hunter Runchey had five to open up an early lead. DCG fought back, scoring by committee to make it 11 all.
In the second quarter, the Jaguars jumped ahead. Luke Mitchell had eight points in the period, and Runchey had six to catapult Centennial ahead 38-19 at the halftime break.
In the third quarter, the Mustangs finally started finding some rhythm offensively. It started on the defensive end with DCG switching to a 1-3-1 zone that confused the Jaguar offense. That allowed the Mustang defense to feed their offense, and Chase Perrin was the beneficiary. The sophomore dropped 13 points, including three three-pointers, to make it 44-36 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth, DCG continued to claw back. Perrin nailed another three while scoring twice more from the field, ending with 22 points. Hudson Heidgerken had a couple of big free throws to bring the Mustangs within four, but it was not enough to overcome the halftime deficit as the Jaguars beat the Mustangs, 55-51.
With the loss, DCG drops to 6-5 after this non-conference matchup. The boys will be in action next Saturday against Clear Lake in the Gilbert Showcase.
