With the main deer seasons in Iowa finished for the year, some may be turning to alternative seasons to keep that hunter’s spirit going.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King says that there are some small game seasons that are ongoing, including the most common of rabbit and squirrel. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that a less common season that has been gaining popularity is for crow.
“That season started up January 14th and runs through March 31st. And there are a growing number of people that I’ve come across throughout the years that are engaged in crow calling. And that is a fast action, typically high paced, and easy to get access to public land, easier I should say, to get access to private and public, you can get on, call crows. They do have terrific eyesight. They are a smart bird.”
King mentions that for hunters that enjoy having a challenge, this is a season he would encourage them to take part in. He adds that other seasons that are active include bobwhite quail, coyote and groundhog, among a few others, and that anyone can check and see when those and other seasons may end by checking out the DNR website.
