Panorama Girls Basketball Coach Randy Miller points out the aspect that he’s admired the most from the squad this season.
The Panthers have a record of 5-10 overall (4-5 inside the West Central Standings), but have won their past two games this week against Ankeny Christian and West Central Valley. Head Coach Randy Miller describes that at the beginning of the year, Panorama would get out to a lead, but then struggle in the latter half of the game to finish off the contest. However, now 15 games into the season, he notes that the girls are better prepared for that moment.
“I’ve been really proud that we’ve got a lead, and we’ve been able to extend our lead in the fourth quarter instead of getting into the fourth quarter and panicking. And so our maturity has come, we’re playing three freshmen quite a few minutes, and then we still play a couple of sophomores a lot of minutes. And so kind of our perseverance a little bit and just being able to do that in these close games, and just not panic, and play with some calmness.”
Miller explains that the girls are learning that there will be runs during the game, and has been preaching to them not to become overwhelmed when it happens. Panorama is preparing for a conference battle in Panora tomorrow versus AC/GC, starting at 6pm with the boys to follow.
