The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Basketball Teams played in Winterset on Thursday, with the girls winning 45-32, and the boys were victorious 62-45.
In the girls game, the first quarter was back and forth, seeing the Tigers have a 9-8 lead. However, in the second quarter, ADM put a little distance, outscoring Winterset by eight points on their way to a 22-13 advantage at the halftime break. The Huskies battled back in the third quarter, including a late three-pointer by senior Abby Hoefing, trailing 33-27 heading into the fourth. The Tigers would rack up another 12 points in the final frame to roll onto a 45-32 win.
ADM was led in scoring by junior Alexis Maxwell, who had 16 points, then it was 7 from sophomore Ella Subbert, and 6 points from freshman Macie Leinen. Leinen described her mentality coming off the bench.
“The team helps a lot. They’re really ready for me to come in and they tell me what’s going on, so I’m ready to play. And Lexi (Maxwell), she’s always communicating, which helps, and then she’s making momentum for the team, and then it just leads me to go get those rebounds.”
The Tigers improve to 9-6 on the season (8-3 inside the Raccoon River Conference), while the Huskies fall to 5-8 overall (3-7 RRC).
On the boys side, ADM raced off to a 19-6 lead after the first quarter. It took about halfway in the second quarter for the Tigers to score, but they tallied 10 points to take charge at 29-18 for halftime. Winterset scored 20 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to nine, trailing 47-38 at the end of the three. The Tigers used a big fourth quarter with 15 points to capture the 62-45 victory.
ADM had three players in double figures, led by senior Trey Bryte, who put up 19 points, followed by senior Hudson Lorensen’s 17, and it was sophomore Walker Holmberg contributing with 12 points. Holmberg has started in place for senior Hudson Shull the past few games, and says he’s continuing to believe in himself.
“Knowing they know that I can knock down shots and just playing with confidence. Because the coaches have me in the starting lineup for a reason, they know that I can make big plays and if I know that I can do that, then I just go out there and I just play.”
The Tigers climb to 12-2 on the year (9-2 RRC), and the Huskies drop to 8-7 overall (4-7 RRC). Winterset will host North Polk on Tuesday, while ADM will welcome Bondurant-Farrar into Adel on Tuesday.
