The Greene County Sheriff’s Office recently released its jail figures for 2025.
According to the report, there were 395 inmates that were booked into the Greene County Jail, and of those, ten were from other counties that were also held at the jail. Sheriff Jack Williams says a total of 74,414 hours were of the inmates that were held at the jail for the year, with 171 hours accounted for from the ten inmates that were from other counties. Chief Deputy Nathaniel Chapman says the reasons for inmates being held include individuals being arrested on new charges, warrants for a previous crime with charges or for probation vocations and others who had a jail sentence to serve from a previous conviction. He adds that most of the time, they stay in jail until a judge gives them approval to be released or through paying a bond.
Williams states that March had the most individuals recorded at the Greene County Jail with 39 and August was the lowest at 21. However, the report shows the last quarter of the year had the highest number of hours served at 26,489 of the total 74,414. Chapman says some of the reasons why people serve time in jail includes cases that resulted in jail time to be served, waiting to be transported to prison or transported to a halfway house.
