14 points from Ava Smid leads Dallas Center-Grimes to a 52-35 victory over the Williamsburg Raiders on Thursday night.
In the first quarter, it was back and forth battle as both teams worked off a little rust. Ava Smid had a couple of buckets while four starters for DCG scored in the quarter to make it 13-10.
In the second quarter, the Mustangs defense forced five turnovers and capitalized on the offensive end. Leah Brauch and Tessa Jones both hit threes and ended with five-point quarters to open up a 27-14 lead at the break.
In the second half, Raiders senior Zoe Allen had ten points to keep Williamsburg close, but it was not enough as Smid countered with ten of her own to finish with 14 points to put an exclamation point on the evening.
With the 52-35 victory, the Mustangs move to 12-2 on the season. The girls will be in action next on Monday night at Ankeny High school. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 pm.
