An Urbandale man was recently sentenced to probation for a sexual abuse of a minor incident that happened in Greene County.

According to court documents, 20-year-old Greg Pendegraft pled guilty to a Class D Felony for grooming and had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for three years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services.

The charge stemmed from an investigation by the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, where court documents state that a sex act took place near the playground area at Spring Lake Park after hours on June 14th. Court documents show that Pendegradt lied about his age, claiming he was 17 when he was 20 and the victim was 14 and not of legal consent age in Iowa. Investigators discovered that Pendegraft used the internet to seduce the victim into having sex.

As part of the plea agreement, Pendegraft must also be on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry for ten years. Assistant Greene County Attorney Laura Snider was the prosecutor and said that there was also a special sentence that will follow the completion of the probationary period, Pendegraft will be on parole for ten years under the supervision of the Iowa Department of Corrections. The plea agreement also dismissed a Class C Felony for third degree sexual abuse.
