Both boys’ and girls’ wrestling finished up their regular dual season in Newton, Iowa. Both teams earned wins with the girls defeating the Cardinals 51-30, then the boys followed up with a 63-12 victory Thursday night.
The girls were up first, and Georgia Edwards, along with Nia Kiley, got the Mustangs off to a good start, pinning their opponents in under a minute. After a couple of Cardinal wins, DCG responded with Delanee Smith, Addyson Bowers, and Sabrina Macke winning three matches in a row. A couple of girls later, Jenah Gray earned a pin, then Aubrey Borcherding finished off the night with another pin in under a minute to wrap up a 51-30 Mustangs win in Newton.
The boys followed suit, but it took until Taye Williamson in the 126 before the Mustangs won their first match. After that, however, the Cardinals didn’t get another point. Avery Van Zelderen, Cole Hemmingsen, Tyde Nelson, Nolan Parrish, and Lucas Sholl all earned wins via pins to catapult DCG to a dominating 63-12 win.
This dual wraps up the regular dual season for both boys and girls wrestling. The two teams have invitationals today before getting prepped for their qualifying dual next week.
