The fatal shooting of a female who was living in Minneapolis, Minnesota from a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer has brought to light several questions regarding the investigation.

Iowa’s Third Congressional District Representative Zach Nunn gives his stance on what happened in Minneapolis earlier this month.

“The tragic shooting of a mother is something that is heart-wrenching to anybody that sees that happen. And I want every Minnesota family and every American to be able to see a full and transparent accounting of what happened at that moment. And I don’t think we are in any position to pre-judge both the mother or the officer involved action until we have all the evidence provided, and I’m fully committed to making sure there is a fair and independent review of that case.”

Congressman Nunn is in favor of some oversight with regards to ICE and the situations that are happening in Minnesota, but not to the scale where law enforcement is undermined, being defunded or attacking federal law enforcement officers for doing their jobs and calling them out when something goes wrong before all pieces of information are gathered and examined. Nunn shares his thoughts on how things can be handled better.

“I want to see a pathway forward that de-escalates the situation, where law enforcement is allowed to do their jobs without obstruction, where peaceful protests are protected not attacked, but there are clear boundaries and there are rule of law for a reason so that we can make sure that we protect the innocent but we also offenders accountable.”

Nunn wants to ensure the American people have their rights and those are protected, but at the same time not allow for people to infringe on each other’s rights.
