West Central Valley senior Meleah Speichinger shares how she’s had to make the transition from softball to bowling.

Speichinger admits that this is her first season bowling at the high school level, and decided to give a try with a friend for their senior year together. She says her favorite aspect of traveling to different bowling alleys for meets is to hang out with her teammates on the bus rides, plus getting an opportunity to cheer them on.

A big component that Speichinger uses prior to a bowling meet is praying to help her enter into the right headspace. She explains that she is used to playing at the pitcher position for softball, and it’s been an adjustment inside the bowling alley.

“I throw the bowling ball like a pitcher. So, I have to move differently than other people to just figure out where I am standing in the lane area to bowl a strike or a spare.”

Speichinger is focusing on increasing her normal bowling averages as the season progresses. The Wildcats will gear up to host a varsity triangular at Stuart Bowl on Tuesday against Madrid and Southeast Warren, starting at 4pm.
