The Stuart Police Department Community Programs took part in the national Shop with a Cop program in December.
Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger says that they held their fourth annual Shop with a Cop, and were able to help several kids get gifts for their families. She shares with Raccoon Valley Radio what part of the day was like.
“They got to go shopping, about an hour, hour and a half to kind of get through their list. We shop for their whole family. So some of them have a littler family. Some of them have quite large families. So we kind of tackle that all together. Each kid is assigned with kind of a shopping buddy. One of our officers or one of our volunteers, usually family of one of the officers, comes to help load up a lot of shopping carts.”
Guisinger mentions that the kids did their shopping at the Target on Mills Civic Parkway, then went and had lunch at Pizza Ranch in Waukee. She adds that afterwards they returned to Stuart, where they helped the kids wrap their gifts at the Stuart Fire Department.
