
A Des Moines woman was recently sentenced to probation for a 2023 incident that happened in Jefferson.
According to court documents, 54-year-old Valeria Beaston pled guilty to a Class D Felony for passing a winning wager to another person. Court documents show that she had a five year prison sentence suspended and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Correctional Services. She was additionally prohibited from entering a casino or engaging in forms of gambling.
The charge stems from an incident that took place on November 8, 2023 at Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson. Court documents show that Beaston won a $2,505 jackpot from a slot machine. She gestured to another person to sit at the machine and claim the jackpot. Video surveillance showed Beaston actually won the jackpot and it was discovered that she owed $24,000 to the state through the Iowa Department of Administrative Services Offset Program.
Court documents state that Beaston was also ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.
