Although the Jayettes have a smaller squad this season, Perry found success on Monday at the Heart of Iowa Conference meet with five podium finishes for the Jayettes. The Erickson sisters continue to dominate, as both sisters, Ayden and Cate placed first in their respective weight classes.
At 125, Ayden kicked off the night with a bye, before facing off against Zoey Wignall of West Marshall in the battle for first place. Ayden claimed the gold defeating Wignall by fall in 3:19. At 130, Cate won both her matches, defeating Jalyn Ridout of West Marshall by tech fall, 20-3 in 1:48 seconds. The momentum carried into her next match, where Cate defeated Hadley Milland of PCM by fall in 4:44 to claim first place at 130. Three other Jayettes ended the night on the podium as well after hard fought bottles on the mat, with Harper Peterson and Joey Maylum placing second, and Hanna Sucher ended the night in third.
The Jayettes now prepare for the biggest meet of the season, as Perry travels to Ottumwa High School for the Class 2A Region 5 state qualifying meet. The action is set to begin at 4pm.
