The Nevada varsity basketball teams completed a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference two game sweep vs. Greene County last night in Nevada. The girls final was 74-39 while the boys’ score was 59-17. The Rams fell to 5-12 overall and 3-9 in the HOIAC in girls basketball, while the Rams are 3-13 on the season and 2-10 in the league on the boys’ side. The Cubs improved to 9-7 for girls and 12-3 for boys.

Coach Tori Ogden’s girls’ team trailed by 18 points in the second quarter and were down 33-17 at halftime, then got to within 45-34 early in the last quarter and had the ball. From that point on, the Cubs were dominant, including a 31-8 advantage in the fourth quarter. Senior guards led the Rams in scoring as Becca Anderson had 14 points and Kaycee Pittman 13..The Rams turned the ball over 13 times in the last quarter and 29 times for the game. Nevada had 27 points from Emilee Kelly and 20 by Olivia Jensen.

The Greene County boys are 0-2 this season vs. Nevada and in both meetings they were held under 20 points. The Rams lost last month at home to the Cubs, 54-19 and last night by a 59-17 score. Junior Zack Stalder scored seven points to lead Greene County. Nevada was led in scoring by Gavin Egeland with 19. Greene County led 2-0 before the Cubs went on a 25-0 run to end the first quarter, and the run reached 28 unanswered points before the Rams scored again, a drought of more than eight minutes of playing time.

The Rams go to Story City on Friday night vs. Roland-Story on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com for a girl/boy doubleheader. The varsity girls are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
