Mustangs Boys basketball takes down the Newton Cardinals, 60-38, inside the Meadows Main Gym on Tuesday night.

In the first quarter, Luke Lorenzen came out with his head on fire. He went to work in the low post, scoring 12 of DCG’s 14 points. Newton’s Brody Wobschall stopped the bleeding with a tough three-pointer and a turnaround jumper, making it 14-8 at the end of the first.

In the second, Hudson Heidgerken and Brody Logan each knocked down the longball, and Landon Hoppe scored on two beautiful drives to the basket. Wobschall hit a couple more triples to keep the Cardinals within striking distance, 25-18 at the intermission.

In the third quarter, the Mustangs extended their lead. Brody Burke led the way in the period with seven points, including a couple of eurostep lay-ins and a transition dunk. Heidgerken hit two more threes while Hoppe hit a trifecta to salt away the dominating 60-38 win.

With the victory, the Mustangs go to 8-5(4-2). The boys are in action next Friday night in Oskaloosa.
