The Guthrie Center City Council met in regular session Monday night.
The Council heard the 2026 first quarter report on Main Street Guthrie Center from Executive Director Becky Petersen and Board member Steve Smith, and discussed Councilwoman Erica Finster being the city’s representative on the Guthrie County Emergency Medical Services Advisory Council. They also began discussions on informational meetings for planning the city’s participation in the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa (RAGBRAI) as the night stop for the second day, and talked about the informational meetings twice a month with RAGBRAI staff beginning February 3rd.
City Clerk Kris Arrasmith shared that she was able to acquire a significant discount on the playground piece she was looking into for the Guthrie County Community Foundation grant, dropping the price by about $16,000. She mentioned this allowed her to add a swing set to the quote and will add that to the grant application, making the new quote approximately $29,500. Arrasmith also reviewed the budget timeline with the council, noting upcoming deadlines.
