The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Basketball Teams found success by sweeping Ballard in Adel on Friday, as the girls won 51-28 and the boys were victorious 62-57 behind senior Hudson Lorensen’s 32 points.
In the girls contest, the Tigers raced out to a 14-7 lead after the first quarter. ADM had a big second quarter, outscoring the Bombers 15-5 to take a 29-12 advantage into halftime. The Tigers continued to grow their lead in the third quarter, taking a commanding 42-19 mark into the fourth, then finished the game off winning 51-28.
ADM was led by sophomore Ella Subbert, finishing with 14 points, followed by junior Alexis Maxwell’s 11, and senior Lauren Hagedorn, who had 6 points. Ballard had junior Grace Grundmeyer and sophomore Maci Harder with 7 points each. The Bombers drop to 5-13 on the season (4-8 inside the Raccoon River Conference) and the Tigers improve to 11-6 overall (10-3 RRC).
On the boys side, it was a battle versus the fourth-ranked Tigers and the Bombers, who are the number one team in Class 3A. Ballard was able to hold a 13-10 lead after the first quarter. ADM responded in the second quarter, with 16 points to take a slight advantage into halftime at 26-25.
The Tigers extended their mark by eight, but the Bombers closed the gap, trailing 41-36 heading into the fourth quarter. During that final frame, Ballard crawled within two points, but ADM senior Hudson Lorensen came back with a big three pointer, then knocked down clutch free throws to secure the 62-57 victory.
Lorensen charged all scores with 32 on the night, including 15-15 from the free throw line, then it was senior Trey Bryte with 13 points. For the Bombers, junior Evan Abbott had 24 points, followed by senior Jude Gibson concluding with 13 points.
Ballard now sits at 14-1 on the year (11-1 RRC), as ADM climbs to 14-2 overall (11-2 RRC).
The Bombers will travel to Gilbert on Tuesday, and the Tigers will host a non-conference game against Indianola in Adel on Tuesday.
