A local veterans organization in Jefferson is seeking an applicant for a week-long program that gives the individual a distinguished honor.
According to the Jefferson American Legion Post #11, one high school junior young man can participate in the American Legion Boys State program. The American Legion Post #11 says the six-day camp provides hands-on experiences in the operations and fundamentals of government. Local coordinator Jeff Lamoureux points out that participants also get involved with the LEADS curriculum, or the Learn, Engage, Accept, Do & Share which gives students the ability to take action and accomplish great things.
Lamoureux notes that being a Boys State participant is the equivalent of earning an Eagle Scout award and gives more weight to that person’s resume for higher education after high school or for a job resume.
The Jefferson American Legion pays for the delegate to attend the program that is held in Johnston from June 21st-June 26th. Contact Lamoureux for more information at 515-370-5326.
