WCV’s Willow Ray Qualifies For State Wrestling Meet

West Central Valley junior Willow Ray will be making a second consecutive trip to the Iowa Girls State Wrestling Tournament next week.

The Wildcats competed in the Class 1A Region 1 State Qualifying Meet in Atlantic on Friday, scoring a total of 63 points. Ray won first place individually in the 130 pound weight division, marking a victory over SWAT’s Erin South with a fall (3 minutes and 54 seconds). West Central Valley’s Lorelei Grinnell (110 lbs.) and Rhowen Miller (140 lbs.) barely missed the mark, garnering fourth overall.

Ray will return to the state meet for the second year in a row. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union’s State Wrestling Tournament is taking place this Thursday and Friday at Xtream Arena in Coralville. The full results from the Class 1A Region 1 Qualifying Meet can be found below.
