
The AC/GC Chargers basketball teams took a pair of victories in Truro Friday night to face the Interstate 35 Roadrunners, with the girls winning 54-31, and the boys winning 71-56.
The Chargers girls team played a close first quarter, taking a 17-14 lead, then put on a strong 18-6 show in the second quarter to go into the half up 35-20. The third quarter was a bit closer, with AC/GC outscoring I-35 11-6 to take a 46-26 lead, and finished things off with an 8-6 final quarter to end the game with the 54-31 victory. Freshman Kailee Kautzky picked up her defensive show from Monday night’s game, stealing the ball at half court or sooner to head to the basket and score.
In the boys game, things were close in the first half, with AC/GC taking a 32-26 lead into the locker room. The Chargers outscored the Roadrunners 19-17 to take the 51-43 lead, and then kept it going in the final quarter to end it 71-56. The play of the game was a stretch of the third quarter where the Chargers couldn’t miss from range, with junior Preston Kent knocking down a couple threes, and seniors Joe Crawford and Tommy Skram contributing from beyond the arch as well. AC/GC returns to action Tuesday night when they visit the West Central Valley Wildcats in Stuart.
