Brennan Jacobs, a Greene County High School junior, won the 106 lbs. title on Saturday in Guthrie Center at the ACGC Charger Wrestling Invitational. There were 20 teams in the field and nine individuals in the 106 lbs. bracket, three of whom were ranked in the top 5 by IAwrestle.

Now 33-3, the Class 2A fourth ranked Jacobs was the number two seed started with a first round bye and a quarterfinal round first period fall, which meant a semifinal date with his most familiar opponent this season in Perry freshman Hayden Splendore. The first five meetings went Jacobs way three wins to two with the Rams winning the first three and the Blue Jay taking the next two. On Saturday, Jacobs won by fall in 5:58 in their sixth clash to clinch the season series over the third ranked Splendore with one more meeting possible if both qualify for the Feb. 18-21 State Tournament in Des Moines. Then, in the 106 lbs. final, Jacobs won a 14-5 major decision over 1A number 3 ranked Hudson Cox of Southeast Warren/Melcher Dallas, a freshman who won his first 40 matches of his high school career, and is now 40-1.

The Rams were tied for eleventh place as a team with Wayne (Corydon) at 63 points. Riverside (Oakland) won the team title with 196.5 points.

Other Rams placing were Jaron Jacobs, Brennan’s twin brother, who was second, and junior Degan Miller who placed sixth after medically forfeiting following a loss by fall in the semifinals to 1A seventh ranked Treynor Cose of Coon Rapids-Bayard. Jaron Jacobs was the top seed at 120 lbs. and he started with a first period fall, then a 17-4 major decision in the quarterfinals, followed by an 18-3 technical fall in the semifinals. Sophomore Wyatt Blair of Southeast Valley (Gowrie) topped the Rams 9-4 in the finals. This was their first meeting this year after splitting two matches a season ago with Blair winning at the 2025 ACGC Invite and Jacobs winning for the trip to the State Tournament at the Humboldt District. Jacobs is now 27-9 on the season.

Coach Zach Beekman only entered seven Rams due to low numbers to begin with as well as illness among some team members.
