Greene Co FFA Advisor Steve Kehoe/Coltrane Carlson-Raccoon Valley Radio
Several Greene County FFA students are competing tomorrow at sub-districts.
Advisor Steve Kehoe says about seven students are competing, including Austyn Smith in Public Speaking, Tatum Tucker is doing Job Interview and the rest are with the Parliamentary Procedure Team of Eli Glawe, Kai Byerly, Kinley Dzuris, Dakota Ostrander and Madesyn Carstens. Kehoe has been an FFA Advisor for several years, mostly with Southeast Valley, and he talks about aside from doing these kinds of contests, he is also about the other learning opportunities that students get out of applying for their state degrees and proficiency awards.
“I firmly believe in the kids’ SAE (Supervised Agricultural Experience) projects, their individual projects where they learn experience and records because a lot of these kids are working some jobs that they need to be recognized for. There’s a lot of good learning that takes place with leadership, but also with recordkeeping. It’s important for these kids to understand good recordkeeping and then have them tell their story.”
Kehoe is hoping to have a handful of proficiency award applicants this year. He adds that for the sub-district entries, they have to get the top two placings in order to advance to the district contest.
