The final home basketball games of the regular season for the Paton-Churdan Rockets were in Churdan last night with P-C hosting Storm Lake St. Mary’s. The Rockets swept the girl/boy basketball doubleheader with the Rockets winning the girls’ game 34-30 and the boys’ final was 75-27.
Junior Trevon Keely topped the 1,000 career points mark in the first quarter and he finished with 24 points, a game high. He’s the school’s most prolific scorer in boys’ basketball in some time.
Senior Cayden Stream had 10 points with nine from Landon Vote, who had nine points on a trio of three-pointers, all in the second half. Coach Josh Cerveny told Raccoon Valley Radio that unofficially Keely and Donovan Martin each had eight rebounds with Vaote at four. “It was a great team wi! I love when our bench players can get in watch the starters cheer for them. They practice just as hard as the starters do. We have two tough conference road games to finish the regular season.” The P-C boys are 7-13 and the Panthes fell to 0-17.
Coach Tom Kennedy’s girls’ team won for the third time this season in 19 games while the Panthers fell to 2-15. St. Mary’s led 12-11 at halftime before the Rockets led 24-19 at the end of the third quarter. Freshman Edynn Smith scored a career high 16 points with 13 by junior Kaliyah Minnihan. Smith sank a trio of three-point goals and Minnihan added one.
Next up is a Friday trip to Woodbine in Rolling Valley Activities Conference girls and boys action.
