A new business is now operating in Jefferson.

Greene County Development Corporation Director Greg Piklapp says Storage Solutions of Iowa, that is located in the East Business Park along US Highway 30, has a unique business plan that allows for certain start-up companies to have a home.

“And it’s something that’s new, it’s something that’s popped onto the scene in the past seven to ten years. And it’s really becoming a nice hybrid use of these spec-builds if you will, because it provides flex commercial space for incubators, and start ups, and small business, and then also storage units – which are traditional storage units, cold storage units, just cover, garage door, that’s it – they use it for cash flow.”    

Piklapp points out that this incubator type business makes for a nice transition for someone looking to grow their company.

“They’ve outgrown their garage in their neighborhood and they need to take the next step. It’s really a functional way for them to do that, more cheaply than if they were going to a brand new building or building on their own, so it’s kind of that in between. You can put in some office space, you can put in some chairs and things like that as well. But it’s heated and it’s designed to be used year round.”  

Piklapp states that of the eight flex commercial spaces, four are leased, and the company that owns it is based in Carroll, but they are also the ones to contact about renting any of the four other bays.
