The football program at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids will field a varsity team for the first time in 2026 and Greene County High School senior Christopher Daugherty signed a Letter of Intent on Feb. 6 to play for the Mustangs. An All-District inside linebacker for the Rams, Daugherty projects as a college linebacker as well.
Greene County head coach Caden Duncan coached Daugherty throughout his high school career. Duncan told Raccoon Valley Radio that Daugherty has been a leader on and off the field and he feels Christopher is joining a program that will help him develop personally and athletically.
Mount Mercy is a private college with an enrollment of more than 1,800 students.
