The Greene County varsity girls’ basketball team lost at home in Jefferson last night vs. South Hamilton (Jewell). It was Senior Night as seniors and their parents were introduced before the crowd and the contest also ended the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference and regular season schedules. The Hawks won 51-44 and out scored the Rams 17-11 in the fourth quarter. SH improved to 9-12 overall and 7-9 in the conference while the Rams fell to 6-16 and 3-13.

Coach Tori Ogden’s girls led much of the first half, but trailed 25-22 at the half and were down by just one at 34-33 at the end of the third quarter. Depth was a factor with eight Hawks scoring two or more points while the Rams had just three players score points, although all three reached double figures. Senior Becca Anderson had 17 points with 16 by junior Makenna Ebersole, who fouled out with 3:02 in the contest. Senior Kaycee Pittman added 10 points. The Rams were just five of 12 from the free throw line and after the score was tied 39-39, the Hawks controlled the closing minutes.

The Hawks were led in scoring by freshman Signe Swanson with 13 points and the Hawks had a total of 27 points from reserves.

The Rams go to Class 3A number 2 Des Moines Christian in Urbandale on Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. to begin regional play. That game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
