The AC/GC Chargers basketball teams split their games against the Madrid Tigers Tuesday night, with the girls winning 65-30 and the boys falling 80-59.
In the girls game, the Chargers outscored the Tigers 20-3, and kept up the pace with a 13-8 second quarter to go into halftime up 33-11. AC/GC kept their foot on the gas in the third quarter, outscoring Madrid 20-11, then outscored them once again in the final quarter with a 12-8 performance to end the game with the 65-30 victory. Senior Camdyn Richter was the Crafty’s Coffee and Gifts Player of the Game, working her way into the post to put up 21 points by herself. When she reached the scoring mark, she actually had more points than the Tigers entire team.
In the boys game, the Chargers put in a close first quarter, trailing 25-15, but the Tigers worked on pulling ahead with an 18-13 second quarter, and the game went into halftime with a score of 43-28. Another big Madrid quarter in the third gave a 19-11 score, but AC/GC was able to outscore the Tigers 20-18 in the final quarter, but were unable to close the gap and finished with the 80-59 loss. Senior Tommy Skram and younger brother freshman Will Skram received player of the game recognitions, as 13 of the 15 first quarter points came from the duo. Senior Joe Crawford was hit with a no-call foul in the opening possession, and left the game with an ankle injury, not to return to the game.
The Chargers boys team finishes the regular season Thursday night with a trip to take on the Underwood Eagles, then both Chargers teams begin postseason play next week.
